SAN JUAN ISLAND ART RESIDENCY MAY 2024

Taking advantage of Teresa Gillespie's alumni status, we returned for fourth time to spend 5 days (May 14 -- 18, 2024) making art at the University of Washington's Whitley Center on San Juan Island.
Dedicated to approved creative projects, the Center is part of a marine research facility called the Friday Harbor Labs.
This time Teresa made 3 woodcuts of flowers and a Great Blue Crane, while Gary worked on 4 abstract figures. Teresa will include her woodcut prints in a future show at the Oak Harbor Public Library. Also, another of Teresa's woodprints recently sold at the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner, WA last week. Three of the four abstract figures by Gary were accepted for a show hosted by the Northwest Collage Society in Mukilteo, WA from August 15 to October 30, 2024. "Helen of Troy" won a merit award at the show. In addition "Ozymandias #9" was accepted as cover art for a prestigious literary journal: Meat for Tea Literary Journal"Wild Woods Call", Ozymandias #9 cover art -- "Looseleaf" issue, September 2024. The other pieces by Gary were also submitted to other literary journals for possible publications.
All of these artworks made during the residency were displayed in a public show at the Gillespie art studio in Oak Harbor on June 28 and 29 -- as part of the Oak Harbor Garden Show.
